Training.
Training for self-steer groups is essential. The Project's
insurance requires an approved crewman to be in charge at all
times whilst underway and negotiating locks.
The Project requires all groups to be accompanied
by at least two crew qualified with either the NCBA Certificate
in Community Boat Management or the RYA Inland Waterways
Helmsman Certificate. You will be asked to identify these
individuals when booking and provide copies of their
certificates. In addition, users who have not steered Dick's
Folly before will be asked to attend a short familiarisation
session. [Past users of the Project who would use steerers
previously registered with us must comply with the current
qualification requirements, effective from 1st January 2005.] The Project
provides the one-day RYA course at intervals throughout the
season.
Training Course bookings: Peter Lincoln 07802 728291.
In order to provide this training we need more voluntary
instructors as well as more qualified helmsmen. If you are
already a qualified instructor or have some experience on canal
boats and would like to train to become one of our instructors,
we would particularly like to hear from you.
