Sponsorship is important for the Project.
Without the generosity of our sponsors in the past, it would
have been impossible to bring the Project to where it is now. We have
been able to secure grants and support in the past but the refit work
during 2010 would have taken much longer had the late Graham Pickett not
been so generous and thoughtful towards the Project.
The Project had reached the point in 2010 where major fundraising was required
to refit the boat and complete work at the base. The fundraising team
has worked hard to achieve this and below are some of the events
organised to raise support for the Project.
6 March 2011 - Vicki Swan and Jonny Dyer appeared at the
third and last of the Abbots Langley Winter Acoustic Concert. They
performed
their usual mixture of traditional and self-penned songs with an amazing
array of instruments. Visit their

11 February 2011 - Quiz Night at the NAP Community Centre in
Kings Langley. The Dicks Folly Crew could not have guessed that this
fund-raising Quiz would have added over £1,000 to their target £50,000
for the refit of the boat. The event was a sell out with 25 teams
representing community groups and supporters who have used the boat over
it’s 20+ years history all vying for the title `Clever Dicks`.
The teams were made up from many of the groups who have used Dick's
Folly in the past, including Abbots Langley Winter Concerts, the
Bell Ringers at St. Mary's Watford and St. James' Bushey, The Guide Post
Trust at Henry Smith House, The Kings Langley Health Walkers, the 1st
Abbots Langley Scouts and the Book Trade Charity. The honours went to local Kings Langley team `The Untouchables` who
will be taking a trip out on a narrowboat as part of their prize.
Organiser John Blake commented that following many compliments
made about the atmosphere, quiz master style and food, a repeat event is
currently being considered. View photos

6 February 2011 - JIGJAW appeared at the Abbots Langley
Winter Acoustic Concert held at Abbots Langley Community Centre, Gallows
Hill Lane, Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire, WD5 0AP [see their
website].
Pictures of the event are shown on this page. Jig Jaw combined
the percussion and passion of dance traditions with vocal harmonies in a
tight scintillating quartet of singing and dancing talent. Jigjaw's
music is developed from traditional dance melodies, so to showcase this
connection we followed the concert with a barn-dance for which the
accompanying music was provided solely by their voices.
22 January 2011 - John Blake, one of the fundraising committee for
the Project, attended
 a presentation at Breakspeare School in Abbots
Langley and received a cheque for £1,000 from the Abbots Langley Tough
Ten Committee [photo is courtesy of HOSS Photography, Abbots Langley]. For those not familiar with the Tough Ten, it is an
annual charity 10 kilometre run which takes place around the vicinity of
Abbots Langley. We are extremely grateful to the committee for this
donation which will be used to refit Dick's Folly. Can we encourage you
to support the Tough Ten this year which will be on Sunday 2 October.
It's a great day out with great community spirit and supported by
ex-England and Watford manager Graham Taylor. See the article in the

7 November 2010 - Where the Working Boats Went
concert at Abbots Langley Community Centre, presented by Life
and Times raised over £200 which will go towards the refit costs
of Dick's Folly. Our thanks go to Graeme and Barry [Life
and Times duo] and Tim and Lesley Brookes for organising the
concert. Use

September 2010 - Watford and Langleys Rotary Club
presented cheques from money raised at Kings Langley Carnival.
Thousands of pounds raised from last years annual Kings Langley
Carnival have been donated to a number of local causes and
charities. The Project received the second highest amount. For
more details see
this article in the Watford Observer. Below, Angi Naylor
[third from the left], receives the cheque on behalf of the
Project.
Walking for Health, is a national campaign to encourage people to
walk for one hour a week. Led by trained volunteers there are two very
popular groups in Kings Langley and Abbots Langley. These groups have
been very supportive towards our Dick's Folly fundraising campaign. In
2009, the local leaders had a trip on Dick's Folly to Casiobury and
back. You can check out the latest dates either in The Villager, or by
going to the
Countryside Management website.
Stopgap, a year long specialist programme run by HCS
for young people in Hertfordshire aged 16 - 25 with asperger's
syndrome or social and communication difficulties, have painted
spoons and keyfobs with a Dick's Folly theme and given them to
the Project to help with fundraising. These were on sale at the
Rickmansworth Festival [2010] and raised over £30: thank you
Stopgap!
